today I’d like to draw attention to a post that was written to encourage action regarding current developments surrounding TYPO3 CMS:

This initiative emerged by noteworthy documents and statements that point to significant changes within TYPO3 GmbH and TYPO3 Association, including: perhaps a new commercial product from TYPO3 GmbH, perhaps changes to governance, and perhaps changes to teams, organization, and rules.

As a community built on open-source principles, we should contribute to our ecosystem with dedication, thoughtfulness, and (above all) in an active and constructive way: TYPO3 CMS is the best-of-breed open-source enterprise CMS. Our motivation is to support this unique selling point and its performance in the best possible way—for the benefit of all of us.

We invite everyone to actively participate in a process that will affect us all—technically, culturally, and economically—and that is why we should rightfully be able to stay informed and prepared.

“TYPO3 Suite” being mentioned as “becoming the core business” being a commercial repository.

First questions that come to mind:

  • Who decides what goes in there, based on what?
  • Who delivers? Can potentially any developer deliver?
  • Since it’s commercial, will a developer receive shares? Based on what metric?
  • Will there be a review process? Who is the reviewer? Is there a team?
  • Follow-up about reviewing: If it would be an external reviewer, is it recouped, being a commercial repo?

And in general: How much sense does a commercial repo make in times where anyone can literally vibe code anything within minutes?
