Idea Title
Update the Educational Sitepackage Extension and Tutorial for TYPO3 v14
What is my idea about?
The idea is to update the official educational Sitepackage extension (Kickstart your TYPO3 template development - get.typo3.org
) and the official Sitepackage tutorial (TYPO3 site package tutorial — Site Package Tutorial main documentation
) so they are fully compatible with TYPO3 v14. This includes updating all code examples, configuration, documentation, and learning materials so newcomers and trainers have an accurate, modern, and easy-to-follow starting point for building TYPO3 sites.
The current Sitepackage extension and tutorial targets TYPO3 v13, which leads to outdated code, inconsistencies, and confusion for new integrators and developers. Since these materials are widely used for onboarding, training, and learning TYPO3 basics, not updating them for TYPO3 v14 makes it harder for newcomers to get started and increases support effort across the community. Updating them ensures a reliable, modern, and consistent learning experience for everyone entering the TYPO3 ecosystem.
What must be achieve by 30th of April 2026?
By 30th of April 2026, the updated educational Sitepackage extension must be fully compatible with TYPO3 v14 and published on https://get.typo3.org/sitepackage
. Additionally, the official Sitepackage tutorial must be revised, updated, and published on docs.typo3.org, with all examples, instructions, and screenshots reflecting TYPO3 v14. Both resources should be reviewed, tested, and ready for newcomers to use without encountering deprecated or outdated information.
Provide a fully working TYPO3 v14 Sitepackage example extension that reflects current best practices.
Deliver an updated, accurate, and beginner-friendly Sitepackage tutorial aligned with TYPO3 v14.
Improve the onboarding experience for new integrators and developers.
Reduce confusion and support effort caused by outdated learning materials.
Strengthen TYPO3 education resources used by trainers, agencies, and newcomers.
Ensure documentation and code examples remain consistent, modern, and maintainable for future TYPO3 versions.
What is the potential impact of your idea for the overall goal?
This idea directly supports TYPO3’s goal of improving accessibility, transparency, and participation within the community. By providing an up-to-date Sitepackage example and tutorial for TYPO3 v14, we strengthen the entry point for new contributors and integrators. This leads to faster onboarding, fewer barriers for newcomers, and a more consistent learning experience across the ecosystem. The updated resources also help ensure that training, documentation, and real-world project work are aligned with TYPO3’s current standards and best practices.
What skills are needed to work on the idea?
Good knowledge of TYPO3 Core concepts, extension development, and Sitepackage structure (experience with TYPO3 v13 is sufficient, plus the ability to adapt to v14 changes)
Ability to read and apply TYPO3 upgrade guides, changelogs, and best practices for new major versions
Familiarity with TypoScript, Fluid templates, Composer-based project setups, and current TYPO3 configuration patterns
Competence in updating and validating PHP, TypoScript, and YAML code according to modern TYPO3 standards
Experience writing or maintaining TYPO3 documentation using phpDocumentor/Guides (ReST-based workflow, no Sphinx)
Ability to communicate clearly and produce beginner-friendly, structured learning material
Optional but valuable: understanding of typical challenges faced by trainers, newcomers, or integrators when building their first site package

How does your Idea align with the strategic goals for TYPO3 v14.
This idea directly supports Roadmap Objective 2 – “Themes, Standardization, and Best Practices” by turning the educational Sitepackage and its tutorial into the canonical example of how to build a TYPO3 v14 site using the recommended structure, APIs, and workflows. It also strongly contributes to Roadmap Objective 3 – “Lowering the Entry Barrier”, because a fully updated v14 Sitepackage and step-by-step tutorial make it much easier for newcomers, agencies, and trainers to get from a fresh install to a working site without guesswork.
By aligning the code and documentation with v14, the project also helps with Objective 4 – “Easier Migration and Upgrades”, as it demonstrates modern patterns and best practices that integrators can copy when upgrading their own projects. More broadly, it supports Strategic Goal 2 – Reducing Complexity and Strategic Goal 3 – Enabling Better Content, by providing clear, guided best practices and improving the quality and accessibility of TYPO3 documentation and examples.
