What is your idea about?
Extbase is a central framework for TYPO3 extension development, but several important use cases are still insufficiently documented. Developers repeatedly ask about these topics in support channels, rely on outdated tutorials, or have to determine the correct behavior through trial and error.
The first phase of this initiative restructured and modernized the Extbase documentation for TYPO3 v14. Phase 2 will build on this foundation and address the practical topics that continue to cause uncertainty and consume development and support time.
We commit to documenting three frequently requested areas:
Handling translations and language overlays in different storage configurations.
Building reliable backend modules with Extbase.
Providing Extbase output for AJAX applications and headless frontends.
Each topic will become a reviewed and merged chapter in the existing Extbase documentation on docs.typo3.org. After completing these chapters, we will continue working through a backlog based on questions and pain points reported by the TYPO3 community.
What must be achieve by 30th of November 2026?
By 30 November 2026, we will deliver at least three complete, technically reviewed and merged documentation chapters for the TYPO3 v14 Extbase documentation.
What is the potential impact of your idea for the overall goal?
The project will make Extbase development more predictable, accessible and efficient.
Developers will spend less time searching support channels, consulting outdated third-party tutorials or reverse-engineering framework behavior. Clear documentation will help them choose supported implementation patterns and avoid errors related to translations, backend module contexts, record storage, AJAX requests and headless architectures.
The documentation will also reduce recurring questions for Core Team members and community support channels. Instead of answering the same questions repeatedly, contributors will be able to reference an authoritative and maintained resource.
Because the results will be published on docs.typo3.org, the work benefits the entire TYPO3 ecosystem: individual developers, agencies, extension authors, integrators, trainers and new contributors. It also improves onboarding and makes TYPO3 v14 easier to adopt and maintain.
The first phase demonstrated that the team can deliver reviewed documentation within the funded period. Phase 2 will extend this successful work into the areas where the community currently experiences the greatest documentation gaps.

The idea directly supports the TYPO3 Association’s mission to enable freedom, interconnection and collaboration through sustainable, accessible and easy-to-use open-source software.
High-quality documentation is essential infrastructure for a sustainable open-source project. It enables developers and organizations to use TYPO3 independently, understand supported implementation patterns and contribute effectively without depending on proprietary knowledge or individual experts.
The project supports the Association’s strategic objectives by:
facilitating open knowledge transfer;
increasing the accessibility and usability of TYPO3;
strengthening collaboration between users, contributors and the Core Team;
reducing barriers to TYPO3 adoption;
supporting the professional TYPO3 ecosystem;
making community knowledge permanent, public and reusable;
using community feedback to prioritize work and allocate resources effectively.
By documenting real-world questions in the official manual, the project turns knowledge currently distributed across support channels and individual experts into a sustainable resource for the entire community.
