What is your idea about?
The drag and drop file uploader is a central component of TYPO3 and has been used in every instance - whether in fileadmin or directly in the content elements.
Until now, the File Uploader could not edit the assets (files).
The Enhanced Media Uploader will enable this: A file can be processed by the Enhanced Media Uploader even before it is uploaded to the server.
The backend user can interact with the interface of the uploader, e.g. select or confirm a choice for a media format.
Conversion of image types
The browser can convert files before uploading, e.g. a heic file (photo in iPhone) to Jpeg, or a Tiff to Jpeg etc. The user can select formats if necessary.
Reduction of file sizes
Images can be reduced to a smaller number of pixels before being uploaded to the server - e.g. a maximum length of 1200 pixels can be configured. Larger images (e.g. from SLR cameras) are then scaled down accordingly in the browser (before being uploaded to the TYPO3 backend).
Support for video files
Video files such as Mov files can be processed directly in the browser and converted to H264 before uploading. The conversion runs in the Java script engine of the browser (Wasm).
The user can also select suitable compression for the application.

What do you want to achieve by the end of Q4 2024?
Drop-in replacement of the uploader for TYPO3 version 12 with the features as described above.
Preparation of the core integration for version 13.
What is the potential impact of your idea for the overall goal?
Introduction of basic video support in TYPO3, simple processing of videos (important for accessibility, etc.).
More supported image formats.
Better use of the TYPO3 backend (upload) with low bandwidth.
Showing that the community is alive - the realisation is a cooperation between hauptsache.net GmbH and Andreas Wolf and was born at a TYPO3 Bar Camp
