Adopt TYPO3 Extension news to latest best practice features
What is my idea about?
The extension “news” is one of the most used extensions with 70k downloads per month. A lot of people approach me and tell me that if they need an idea how to implement features in their own extension, they always check EXT:news and find useful implementations there. However, EXT:news does not yet use all of the latest features and that should be improved.
What do I want to achieve by the end of Q4 2025?
Implementing Site Settings (A feature which is still being improved in 13 LTS as well) - Finalizing the v14 support: There is already a branch ( GitHub - georgringer/news at v14 ) but with release of 14.0 end of November, also EXT:news should be ready - not only for users but also for core development to have working extensions to find bugs/issues in core itself .
What is the potential impact of your idea for the overall goal?
Faster adoption of TYPO3 14 when big extensions also ready as well. Less excuses for other extension devs - Faster adoption of latest features like site settings (Personally not using them currently at all [yet]) - Working examples of TYPO3 features in real life - Finding potential missing features in core (Some features have been implemented for EXT:news first and then came into core, like special features for routing)
