Adding dark mode to the TYPO3 documentation

By Björn Huber

What is your idea about?

Dark Modes are everywhere. Even in the backend with Version 13. By introducing Dark Mode in the documentation, we aim to improve the usability and accessibility of TYPO3’s documentation, making it more comfortable and efficient for users working with it.

What do you want to achieve by the end of Q1 2025?

By the end of Q1 2025 our goal is to improve the design of the TYPO3 documentation with an optional dark mode which can be switched by the user. The default theme will be based on the user settings of their operating system.

The result will be docs.typo3.org respects the darkmode or lightmode of your browser, you can actively switch the color-mode. Both color modes are as accessible as the current light mode is.

Our goals are:

  • Improve User Comfort and Accessibility
  • Aling with Modern UI/UX Standards

What is the potential impact of your idea for the overall goal?

The TYPO3 documentation is becoming (more) accessible. In addition, by taking user settings into account, the platform receives a standard that has already been established by other applications.

Which budget do you need for your idea?

3.000 Euro
