I too do not need the frontend editing and prefer to use the page or list module. But I am an advanced editor who uses the backend very often.
By contrast, most editors rarely use the backend and thus are better off working on the content of the site with the frontend graphics in front of them. This is because it is less of a mental effort than figuring out what a particular block in the page module corresponds to and how it will come out graphically in the frontend.
Put yourself in the shoes of a person looking for a CMS for his new website. On the one hand he has the TYPO3 page module in front of him, and on the other hand he has an imaginary CMS equal to TYPO3 but with an excellent frontend editing. What will he choose? The former or the latter?
