Improve Beginner Editor UI Sprints

Application by
Robert Lindh and Mathias Bolt Lesniak

What is your idea about?
"Four sprints to make TYPO3’s UI better for beginners. We would like to explore, draft, and implement ways to make the editor experience more intuitive and easy to grasp.

During the sprints, we would like to continue improving the Frontend Editing concept (which is now moving into a backend module). At the same time, things we have learnt and challenges we have faced with that project make it an excellent starting point to look at how TYPO3’s editing experience can be improved for first-timers.

Here are some questions that could be explored—and solved:

  • Can inline editing be used in more places than the frontend_editing extension?

  • Could file listing be improved by introducing other views (like thumbnails)?

  • Can page editing and content publication be simplified by introducing forms customized for the exact use case, rather than the data?"

What is the potential impact of your idea?
This idea would explore questions that can increase satisfaction in beginner editors. Giving the user a experience of mastery early on will create a positive emotion encouraging the user to use and learn more about the CMS.

Who can / should implement your idea?
I will take care myself
